The Butcher Build – New World Season 9
This New World Season 9 build for The Butcher focuses on playing to the strengths of The Butcher, where bleeds last 25% longer. There are other viable builds for The Butcher that fill in current meta playstyles like a Rend Bot Build.
Mainhand Weapon
The Butcher with gem slot for Runeglass of Arboreal Diamond – for most artifacts without a gem slot, if you can put a gem slot in it, this is almost always the best option for DPS.
Offhand Weapon
Hoplite Spear with Enfeebling Skewer – Does not have to be a Hoplite Spear, but if you frequently run Hive of Gorgon’s it’s easily obtainable. Since we are playing off the strengths of The Butcher, this spear skill tree focuses on Bleed, 5% rend tree, and the quick burst damage of Cyclone.

Armor
Prioritize armor perks in the following order:
- Enchanted Ward
- Refreshing 4x
- Weapon Perks
- Vital Synergy and Empowering Breaker
Creed Boots is my current favorite for The Butcher of the Light armor artifacts with the Season 9 update, since it applies a base damage boost, empower damage boost, crit chance boost, and weaken.
Jewelry
Pick the best Protection amulet that matches the most common damage you will be taking in the activity you are in. For example, Echidna from Hive of Gorgons uses Strike Damage, so you’d want a Strike Protection Amulet.

Ring options are usually Elemental Band, Azoth Crystal Ring, or an equal Gorgon ring.

Perks to aim for in an earring:

In this build it’s important for the Earring to be Dexterity so you can hit the correct Attribute splits.

Typical Buffs and Trophies
In order to do maximum damage, the correct trophies and damage boosting buffs should be applied. The example below is for the Hive of Gorgon’s Raid, where you should ideally have 5 buffs above your health bar, and Major trophies at each of your 3 houses matching the enemy type.
- 3x Major Angry Earth Trophies – 3×5%(15%) Angry Earth Damage
- Infused Angry Earth Coating – 15% Angry Earth Damage
- Infused Angry Earth Ward – take 10% less damage from Angry Earth enemies
- Powerful Honing Stone – 7% Empower
- Desert Sunrise – reduce duration of incoming DoTs by 25%
- +48 food
How to Play
- Heavy Attack to get 30% empower for 5s
- Shield Rush to apply weaken
- Whirling Blade to apply Bleed
- Upheaval to reduce cooldowns

Tips to remember
If you are attacking an immobilized enemy, skip Shield Rush step to save the weaken for when they can do damage to you or your teammates.
Try to stay on your enemies back the entire time to take the best use of Creed Boots perks.
